Breisach, Germany and The Black Forest
Our first “off-the-ship” tour on one of Viking’s own tour buses was to the Breisach area, gateway to the Black Forest. According to Wikipedia, “The Black Forest is a wooded mountain range in Baden-Württemberg, southwestern Germany. It is bordered by the Rhine valley to the west and south. The highest peak is the Feldberg with an elevation of 1,493 meters.” We rode through the picturesque countryside, stopping at a monastery and cathedral, as well as at one of the many tourist centers specializing in Cuckoo Clock handicrafts. More information on the Black Forest can be reviewed at Germany’s Black Forest
Visit History of the German Cuckoo Clock for more information on this unique German handicraft; and, click on this link to see a short life-size version of the Cuckoo Clock in action: Life Size Cuckoo Clock in Action | Black Forest, Germany
We’ll done! Lots of information for anyone who is planning a river cruise or visiting any of these cities.
