Hotels are scattered throughout the downtown, as well as in nearby hillside neighborhoods that afford great views of the city and lake, including our boutique hotel, The View. The hotel had 14 spacious contemporary rooms, and the morning continental breakfast was fantastic, with tasty baked goods and other treats made by the owner.
Government buildings have a definite Swiss / mountain style architecture, and the waterfront public spaces take advantage of magnificent water views and provide easy public access.
Nahuel Huapi Lake Excursion
After a restful night in our hotel, we met our driver the next morning for a 45-minute scenic drive from downtown to Lake Nahuel Huapi. After waiting a short time in the well-designed contemporary Terminal, we boarded the Cau Cau Catamaran for an afternoon excursion on the Lake, visiting two destinations – Victoria Island and the Ancient Arrayannes Forest, within Parque Nacional Los Arrayanes. We had reserved seats on the top deck of the vessel, affording us great views of the surrounding mountains and a smaller group of tourists to move around!
On the outside deck, Cau Cau photographers were taking photos of passengers in the hopes of selling 8 x 10’s at the end of the trip. One of the favorite “setups” involved the many seagulls that follow the boat . . . as Bill, our most adventurous of the group illustrates below!
