Inside the Winter Palace
The reported over-the-top grandness of the Winter Palace does not disappoint! From the Palace’s Main Staircase to the St. George Hall (or Great Throne Room), the interior is overwhelmed by gilded walls, painted ceilings, sculptures, detailed stucco work and an abundance of mirrors. The scale of the rooms is grand; the styles vary from Renaissance and Classical to Moorish (and sometimes all three combined in one room), each room seemingly more elegant and more majestic than the other.
